Annie Morris (b. 1978, London, UK) is a multidisciplinary artist known for her poignant Stack sculptures, which feature precariously balanced, colorful spheres made of plaster or bronze, painted with vivid raw pigments. These sculptures, inspired by her grief following a stillbirth, symbolize both the fragility of life and the strength of hope and creativity. Morris's work also includes tapestries, paintings and drawings that explore themes of the feminine body, abstraction and personal experience, often incorporating floral and figural motifs.
Morris studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Her Stack series, which began in 2014, is her most recognized work and has been exhibited widely in cities including London, New York, Milan and Mumbai. She has had solo shows at venues like Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Timothy Taylor Gallery and her work is held in collections such as the Fondation Louis Vuitton and the Pérez Art Museum Miami. In addition to her Stack sculptures, Morris creates abstract paintings and tapestries with personal and symbolic motifs, often using the same vibrant pigments.
In 2023, Morris was commissioned to create a permanent installation for the West Yorkshire History Centre and, in 2024, she had her first museum survey in China at the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai.
