Li Hei Di

Born in 1997 in Shenyang, China, Li Hei Di creates ethereal paintings that merge biomorphic forms with dreamlike, atmospheric environments, balancing figuration and abstraction. Their works explore themes of desire, seduction and identity, often influenced by personal experiences and cultural references such as literature, music and wuxia films. Using rich palettes and layering techniques, Li’s canvases evoke fleeting moments of raw emotion while challenging rigid gender and sexual norms.

Li’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, stop-motion animation and performance, engaging with fluidity and intimacy. After studying in the U.S. and the U.K., Li earned a BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts and an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art. Recognized as one of Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 in 2024, Li has exhibited globally, with solo shows in Shanghai, Los Angeles, London and group exhibitions in major venues like Gagosian Gallery, Yuz Museum and Le Consortium.

Her work is part of prestigious collections, including the Columbus Museum of Art, ICA Miam and LACMA. Currently based in London, Li continues to captivate audiences with their layered, diaphanous imagery and exploration of human vulnerability.
