Rashid Johnson

Born 1977 in Chicago, USA lives and works in New York. Johnson is among an influential cadre of contemporary American artists whose work employs a wide range of media to explore themes of art history, individual and shared cultural identities, personal narratives, literature, philosophy and critical history.
 
Johnson’s work is in the permanent collections of Whitney Museum of American Art; Guggenheim Museum; LACMA; among many others.
 
Rashid Johnson will take on the entirety of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in a mid-career survey from April 18 through Jan 18, 2026. Titled "A Poem for Deep Thinkers", it will include almost 90 works in photography, video, film, mixed-media paintings, sculpture and installation.
